Best AI SRE Agents for Incident Response 2026, Priced
The short answer
An AI SRE agent investigates an alert the moment it fires: it reads your telemetry, deploys and code changes, proposes a root cause and, with approval, a fix. The best AI-driven DevOps automation vendors for incident response, as of October 29, 2026:
| Vendor | Best for | Pricing model | List price |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS DevOps Agent | AWS (also Azure and on-prem since GA) | Per agent-second | $0.0083/agent-second; 8-min investigation ≈ $3.98 |
| Azure SRE Agent | Azure estates | Azure Agent Units (AAU): 4 AAU per agent-hour always-on + token-based active flow | Microsoft’s examples assume $0.10 per AAU (≈ $292 per agent per month always-on) |
| Datadog Bits AI (Bits Investigation) | Teams whose telemetry is in Datadog | AI credits | $500 per 500 credits/month (annual) or $1.30 per credit on demand; ~4 credits per investigation |
| PagerDuty SRE Agent | PagerDuty on-call shops | Platform fee with AI actions | PD Reliability Platform Starter $2,800/year (10 seats, 1,000 AI actions); Essential $12,000/year (20 seats, 4,000) |
| incident.io | Slack/Teams-native incident response | Per user + add-on | Pro $25/user/month; AI investigations (root cause analysis) an add-on on Pro and Enterprise |
| Cleric | Multi-tool estates, independent agent | Credits for completed work | Team $700/month (1,400 credits); $0.50/credit; $5 per issue, $1 per change verified |

How the options differ
AWS DevOps Agent became generally available on March 31, 2026. It learns your applications and their dependencies, works with your observability tools, runbooks, repositories and CI/CD pipelines, and investigates incidents in AWS, Azure and on-premises environments. Billing is pure usage at $0.0083 per agent-second: AWS’s own worked example of 80 investigations of 8 minutes plus 100 short chats is $343.62 a month. The detail most buyers miss: AWS Support customers receive monthly DevOps Agent credits worth 100% (Unified Operations), 75% (Enterprise Support) or 30% (Business Support+) of their prior month’s support charge, which can make it free.
Azure SRE Agent bills in Azure Agent Units. A fixed always-on charge of 4 AAU per agent-hour runs from creation until the agent is deleted — stopping it does not stop that charge. Active work is metered by tokens at model-specific rates; with Claude Opus 5.5 the rate is 80 AAU per million input tokens and 400 per million output. You can cap monthly active-flow AAUs (minimum 500), after which the agent stops answering until the next month. Consolidate workloads under one agent to avoid paying the baseline several times.
Datadog Bits AI sells one pool of AI credits across Bits Chat (~0.5 credits per message), Bits Investigation (~4 credits per autonomous investigation), Bits Code (~5 per code fix) and Agent Builder (~1 per run). Its advantage is context: it already holds your metrics, logs, traces and monitors, so there is nothing to integrate. Watch cascading alert storms — per-investigation pricing scales with alert count unless you route only actionable monitors to it.
PagerDuty has moved its AI into the PD Reliability Platform, an annual platform fee that bundles seats, Signal Intelligence events and AI actions; post-incident review data feeds its SRE Agent. The older per-user Incident Management plans ($25/user/month Professional) remain, with AI as paid add-ons.
incident.io is the strongest Slack- and Teams-native response tool, with a free Basic plan and Team at $19 per user ($15 annual). AI suggestions and Scribe come with Pro; root-cause investigations are sold as an add-on without a published price.
Cleric is an independent agent that prices completed work: 10 credits ($5) to investigate an issue, with repeat alerts joining the open issue at no charge, and 2 credits ($1) to watch a production change for regressions for 14 days. Every trial includes 1,000 evaluation credits with no time limit, enough for about 100 investigations.
Picks by situation
- Mostly AWS, on an Enterprise Support plan: AWS DevOps Agent — the support credit likely covers it.
- Mostly Azure: Azure SRE Agent, one agent per environment boundary, with an AAU cap set on day one.
- Datadog is your source of truth: Bits AI; route only paging monitors to automatic investigation.
- PagerDuty runs on-call and you want one vendor: PagerDuty’s platform tiers.
- Several observability tools, or you want to price by outcome: Cleric.
- Small team, Slack-first, tight budget: incident.io Basic or Team, adding AI investigations later.
How to evaluate one in two weeks
- Replay last quarter’s incidents. Feed the agent ten resolved incidents and compare its root cause with your postmortem. Count exact, partial and wrong.
- Start read-only. Give it telemetry, deploy history and repositories; withhold write access to production.
- Measure time to a correct hypothesis, not time to first message.
- Price your real alert volume. Multiply monthly paging alerts by the per-investigation cost before you sign, and check how each vendor groups duplicate alerts.
- Allow reversible actions only after the agent is right on a clear majority of replayed incidents.
