ChatGPT Team vs Multi-Model AI Platforms for Companies
The short answer
Buy ChatGPT Business if your company has picked OpenAI; buy a multi-model platform if it has not. As of October 27, 2026:
- ChatGPT Business (the plan formerly called ChatGPT Team) — best single-vendor workspace for OpenAI shops: $20 per user per month billed annually, $25 monthly, Codex and ChatGPT Work included.
- Claude Team — the same idea for Anthropic: $20 per seat per month annually, $25 monthly, Claude Code and Claude Cowork included.
- Langdock — best managed multi-model workspace, especially in Europe: €25 per user per month, 40+ models included, SSO/SCIM, EU hosting.
- Open WebUI (self-hosted) — best when prompts must not leave your infrastructure: free for internal use, bring your own API keys or local models.
The question is less “which chatbot is smartest” and more “how many vendors do we want to depend on”. Model leadership has changed hands several times in 2026 — compare current prices in our current API prices table — and a multi-model platform lets you switch without re-licensing every employee.
The comparison
Prices from each vendor’s pricing page on October 27, 2026 (Langdock in euros, excluding VAT).
| Platform | Models | Price per user per month | Admin and governance | Where data lives | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Business | OpenAI only | Standard $20 annual / $25 monthly · Premium $100 / $125 (≈5x usage) | Admin console, usage visibility, spend controls; min. 2 seats | OpenAI | OpenAI-standardised teams; Codex users |
| Claude Team | Anthropic only | Standard $20 annual / $25 monthly · Premium $100 / $125 | SSO, central billing, no training on your content by default, up to $500/month pooled API credits | Anthropic | Writing-, analysis- and coding-heavy teams on Claude |
| Langdock | 40+ models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, open weights) | Standard €25 · Business Max €99 (5x usage); 7-day trial | SSO/SCIM/SAML, up to 1,000 users; Governance add-on free until Jan 1, 2027, then €3.50 | EU-hosted | European companies wanting every model in one place |
| Open WebUI | Any API or local model | No licence fee for internal use; pay API tokens or GPUs | Your IdP, your logs; branding must stay for deployments over 50 users | Your servers | Regulated data, in-house platform teams |
When ChatGPT Business is the right call
Pick ChatGPT Business when most of the value your people get is from OpenAI products specifically: Codex for engineers, ChatGPT Work for agentic tasks, and OpenAI’s newest models the day they ship (GPT-6.1 Terra reached ChatGPT Work and Codex on paid plans on October 26, 2026). The Standard seat is simple to buy, a workspace needs only two seats, and workspace credits extend usage beyond the included limits. The trade-off is lock-in: if your developers prefer Claude for coding, you will end up buying Claude seats too.
When a multi-model platform wins
- Different teams prefer different models. Engineering may want Claude, finance may want GPT, research may want Gemini’s long context. One seat in a multi-model tool covers all three.
- You want leverage at renewal. If assistants, prompts and knowledge bases live in a vendor-neutral workspace, switching the default model is a setting, not a migration.
- Data residency. Langdock hosts in the EU and offers dedicated deployments for 1,000+ users; Open WebUI runs wherever you run it.
The trade-offs: multi-model platforms get new vendor features (Codex, Claude Code, native agents) later or not at all, because those products live in the vendors’ own apps, and usage limits per seat are the platform’s, not the vendor’s.
Self-hosting with Open WebUI
Open WebUI is the most-starred self-hosted chat interface on GitHub (about 157,000 stars on October 27, 2026). It speaks to OpenAI-compatible APIs and local runtimes, so you can put it in front of a gateway such as LiteLLM and route each model to Azure, Bedrock, Vertex or a local GPU. Since v0.6.6 its licence requires keeping Open WebUI branding for deployments over 50 users; internal deployments with 50 or fewer users may rebrand. Budget for the operational work: SSO, backups, upgrades and per-user cost tracking are yours. For the gateway layer, see managed, self-hosted and hybrid agent gateway vendors.
How to choose
- One vendor already won internally: ChatGPT Business or Claude Team, whichever your engineers use.
- No clear winner, under 1,000 people, EU-based: Langdock.
- Prompts may not leave your network: Open WebUI plus a gateway in your VPC.
- Already on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace: compare their bundled assistants first in ChatGPT Business vs Claude Team vs Gemini Workspace.
