Quick Answer

LandingAI ADE vs Snowflake vs Azure Document Intelligence

Published:

The short answer

Choose by where your documents live and who has to trust the output. As of October 30, 2026:

  • LandingAI Agentic Document Extraction (ADE): best when every extracted value must be traceable to a spot on the page (lending, insurance, healthcare, legal) and your documents vary too much to train a model per type.
  • Snowflake AI_EXTRACT / AI_PARSE_DOCUMENT: best when the PDFs are already in a Snowflake stage and the results feed Snowflake tables. You get SQL, no new vendor, and no data movement.
  • Azure Document Intelligence: best for high-volume standard documents (invoices, receipts, IDs, tax forms) in Microsoft estates, and the only one of the three with disconnected containers.

Snowflake’s older “Document AI” product has been folded into its Cortex AI Functions for documents. Snowflake’s own Document AI overview URL now redirects to the AI Functions page, so compare against AI_EXTRACT, not the legacy model-building UI.

Features

LandingAI ADE splits work into composable APIs (parse, extract, split and others). It handles layout, complex tables, figures and mixed document types, and links every value back to its location on the page. The DPT-3 Verity model costs roughly two-thirds less than DPT-3 Pro and suits digital-native documents in Latin scripts. Use Priority tier only when a person or agent is waiting; Standard is half the price.

Snowflake AI_EXTRACT takes natural-language questions or a JSON schema and returns entities, lists or tables. It reads handwriting, checkboxes and tables. Requesting confidence scores (scores => TRUE) costs nothing extra, which makes human-review thresholds easy to build in SQL. Pair it with AI_PARSE_DOCUMENT for RAG and AI_CLASSIFY to route mixed document streams.

Azure Document Intelligence has the broadest catalogue of prebuilt models and trainable custom extraction and classification. Commitment tiers cut the per-page price at volume. For example, Read overage falls to $0.41 per 1,000 pages at the 16-million-page connected-container tier.

Accuracy

No independent benchmark covers all three on enterprise documents. Snowflake’s documentation reports a DocVQA score of 0.9433 for arctic-extract, against 0.8853 for Azure Document Intelligence plus GPT-o3 and 0.8313 for AWS Textract. That is a vendor table on a public visual-question dataset, not on your invoices. LandingAI publishes its own benchmarks for DPT-3. The only accuracy number that should decide a purchase is field-level accuracy on your own pages. Build an answer key for 200–500 documents, run all three, and count correct fields, not “documents processed”.

Cost at 100,000 pages a month (illustrative)

  • Azure prebuilt invoice: about $1,000. Custom extraction: about $3,000.
  • LandingAI DPT-3 Pro, Standard tier: about 150,000 credits = about $1,500 to parse, with extraction credits on top. DPT-3 Verity cuts the parse cost by about two-thirds.
  • Snowflake AI_EXTRACT: about 97 million input tokens for the pages alone, plus questions and output, at your account’s AI Functions credit rate. Model it in your own account before committing.

Picks by use case

  • Regulated review where auditors click through to the source: LandingAI ADE.
  • Data team on Snowflake building document tables and dashboards: Snowflake AI_EXTRACT. You can still buy LandingAI through the Snowflake Marketplace if grounding matters.
  • Accounts payable, receipts and IDs at scale on Azure, or air-gapped sites: Azure Document Intelligence.
