Best Email APIs for AI Agents 2026: AgentMail vs Resend
The short answer
Give every agent its own address, and pick the provider by how much of a mailbox the agent needs. As of November 1, 2026:
- AgentMail — best when agents need full inboxes: threads, labels, drafts, scheduled sends, an MCP server, and up to 150 inboxes on one plan.
- Resend — best when you already send transactional email and want agents to send and receive from a handful of inboxes on the same bill.
- Postmark — best when deliverability is critical and the agent only needs to parse incoming mail through a webhook.

1. AgentMail — best for agent-native inboxes
AgentMail treats the inbox as the product. Every plan, including free, gets threads, labels, attachments, drafts, scheduled sends, webhooks, websockets, an SMTP relay, inbox pods for multi-tenant setups and an MCP server, so an agent in Claude, Cursor or a custom harness can read and reply without glue code. Pricing: Free (3 inboxes, 3,000 emails a month, 100 a day), Developer $20/month (10 inboxes, 10,000 emails a month, 10 custom domains, no “Sent via AgentMail” footer), Startup $200/month (150 inboxes, 15,000 emails a day, SOC 2 report) and Enterprise with EU cloud, BYO cloud and dedicated IPs. Add-ons are $2 a month per inbox, domain or 1,000 monthly sends. Choose it when you run many agents and each one needs a mailbox it can live in.
2. Resend — best if you already send with it
Resend is a developer email API whose plans now include three inboxes that agents (or your team) can send from, receive into and reply from; paid plans add more at $1 per inbox per month. Inboxes have no separate allowance — every email sent or received counts toward the transactional quota: Free 3,000 a month, Pro $20 for 50,000 or $35 for 100,000, Scale from $90 for 100,000 up to $1,150 for 2.5 million. Inbound email via webhooks, signed webhooks, multi-region sending and SOC 2 Type II come on every plan. Choose it when the agent is one part of a product that already sends receipts and notifications.
3. Postmark — best for deliverability
Postmark’s argument is inbox placement for transactional mail. Basic is $15 a month for 10,000 emails but has no inbound processing; Pro ($16.50) and Platform ($18) add inbound email processing, which parses incoming messages and posts them to your webhook, with extra emails at $1.30 and $1.20 per 1,000. It publishes Postmark Skills to teach coding agents to send email correctly. Choose it when the agent sends password resets, invoices or other mail that must not land in spam, and only needs to read replies.
How to choose
- Many agents, each with a mailbox, MCP access: AgentMail.
- One product, a few agent inboxes, existing sending: Resend.
- Mission-critical outbound, simple inbound parsing: Postmark.
- Always: use a dedicated subdomain for agent mail so its reputation cannot damage your main domain, and treat every incoming email as untrusted input — a message can carry a prompt injection.
