Best Infrastructure for Multi-Agent Systems in Production
The short answer
Choose the runtime where your data and identity already live, then add durable orchestration and tracing. The best infrastructure for multi-agent systems in production, as of October 28, 2026:
| Pick | Best for | What it covers | Price (list) |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS Bedrock AgentCore | Agents on AWS | Runtime (microVM sessions), Gateway, Identity, Policy, Memory, Browser, Code Interpreter | Runtime v2 $0.1276/vCPU-hour + $0.0169/GB-hour, per second; $200 Free Tier credits for new AWS customers |
| Google Agent Runtime (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) | Google Cloud and Workspace | Runtime, sandboxes, Agent Gateway, sessions and memory | $0.085/vCPU-hour after 50 free hours/month; $0.009/GiB-hour after 100 free |
| LangSmith Deployment | LangGraph agents, any cloud | Long-running agent server, state, cron, streaming, tracing and evals | Plus $39/seat/month with 1 free Serverless (Small) deployment; Enterprise self-hosted/hybrid |
| Temporal Cloud | Agents that must never lose work | Durable workflows, retries, timers, human waits | $50 per million actions, down to $25 with volume; $150 credits for 90 days |
| CrewAI Enterprise | Crew-based apps with governance | Crews, flows, tracing, guardrails, SSO/RBAC, PII redaction, VPC deploy | Basic free (50 executions/month); Enterprise custom |

The five layers, and who covers them
A multi-agent system fails in production in predictable places. Check each layer separately:
- Runtime and isolation. Each agent session needs its own sandbox so one agent’s tool call cannot reach another’s data. AgentCore Runtime runs sessions in microVMs billed per second with a one-second minimum, and Runtime v2 reclaims idle memory after 120 seconds. Google’s Agent Runtime rounds to the second and does not bill idle time between turns.
- Durable orchestration. Agents call slow, flaky APIs and wait on humans. Temporal records every step, so a crash resumes the workflow without re-running paid model calls. Compare options in best durable execution platforms for AI agents.
- Shared memory and state. Agents hand off context. AgentCore Memory, Google’s Sessions and Memory Bank, and LangGraph’s persistence all store it; for specialist memory layers see best AI agent memory systems.
- A gateway for tools, models and other agents. AgentCore Gateway with Policy checks each tool call; Google routes agent traffic through Agent Gateway. For vendor-neutral options see managed vs self-hosted vs hybrid agent gateways.
- Tracing across agents. One user request may touch five agents and thirty model calls. LangSmith and CrewAI include tracing; elsewhere add OpenTelemetry and an LLM observability tool.
Platform notes
AWS Bedrock AgentCore is the most complete managed stack: Runtime, Gateway, Identity, Policy, Memory, a browser tool and a code interpreter, each priced separately. Identity costs nothing when used through Runtime or Gateway. Web Search on AgentCore is $7 per 1,000 queries. The catch is the number of meters; model it before committing.
Google Agent Runtime (formerly Agent Engine) prices compute, memory and storage on three unified resource types and includes a free tier per account each month. Teams already on Gemini models and Workspace get identity and network controls natively; see trusted agent control plane providers.
LangSmith Deployment is the shortest path from a LangGraph graph to a horizontally scalable service with an Assistants API, cron scheduling and scale-to-zero on dedicated deployments. LangGraph shipped 1.2.18 on October 26, 2026. Enterprise adds self-hosted and hybrid options.
Temporal Cloud is not an agent framework; it is the safety net under one. It has SDKs in many languages, a 99.9% SLA (99.99% with high availability), and pairs well with any framework.
CrewAI (1.15.32, October 27, 2026) suits teams that think in roles and tasks. Its Enterprise plan bundles governance features platform teams otherwise assemble — SSO, RBAC, workload identity, PII redaction and dedicated VPC deployment.
Picks by situation
- Already on AWS, regulated data: AgentCore Runtime + Gateway + Policy, a framework of your choice, Temporal for long workflows.
- Google Cloud and Gemini: Agent Runtime with Google ADK (v2.13.0, October 23, 2026).
- Cloud-neutral team on LangGraph: LangSmith Deployment, with Temporal if workflows run for days.
- Small team, one product, fast: CrewAI or LangSmith’s free tier, then add a gateway when agents start calling external tools.
Model tokens usually cost more than the runtime; check current API prices before sizing. The broader layer map is in what infrastructure you need to run AI agents at scale.
