What is the difference between ChatGPT Pro 500, Pro 200 and Pro 100?

All three are monthly ChatGPT Pro plans with Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads. Pro 100 ($100/month) is the entry Pro tier. Pro 200 ($200) includes more usage. Did ChatGPT Pro 200 get worse?

For new subscribers, yes. OpenAI paused new Pro 200 sign-ups in September 2026 because of GPT-6 Astra demand and reopened them at DevDay on September 29 — but new subscriptions that are not eligible for grandfathering get a lower included usage allowance than before, 'to reflect our increasingly efficient models.' The price stays $200. Subscribers whose Pro 200 was active at the eligibility cutoff, or lapsed within the seven days before it, keep the old allowance through October 29, 2026, then move to the lower allowance. Keeping the old allowance does not add Ultrafast.

Is ChatGPT Pro 500 worth $500 a month?

Only if you are usage-bound or latency-bound. Pro 500's two exclusives are the largest allowance (25x Plus) and Ultrafast, which OpenAI prices at 6x standard in the API ($60/$300 per million tokens for GPT-6 Astra) — so heavy Codex users who would otherwise buy credits, or developers who sit waiting on Astra in Codex all day, can come out ahead. For everyone else, Pro 100 plus credits or a GPT-6.1 Sol API key is cheaper: Sol costs $2/$10 per million tokens and scores within one index point of Astra.

Do ChatGPT Pro plans include OpenAI dots?

Yes. As of September 29, 2026, the first dot is included at no extra cost on all Pro plans — Codex lead Tibo Sottiaux confirmed Pro 100 qualifies — and on Business Premium. Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits; tasks a dot starts in Codex or ChatGPT Work do. Plus and Free do not get dots. Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces get a beta when an admin enables it.

What changed on September 29

Pro 500 launched at $500/month with “our highest usage allowance” and Ultrafast. Sarah Friar told CNBC that when the $200 SKU launched “people thought we’d lost our minds,” and that consumers are “moving more towards consumption” — buying credits rather than seats.
Pro 200 reopened. New subscriptions get a lower allowance; existing ones are grandfathered through October 29, 2026. Only affected users get an email. Keeping the old allowance does not upgrade you or add Ultrafast.
Ultrafast gating. Among Pro plans, only Pro 500. It uses included usage first, then your credit balance. At launch, buying credits on Pro 100/200 does not unlock it. Enterprise also gets it.
Dots included on every Pro plan.

Is Ultrafast worth $300 a month?

The Pro 500 premium over Pro 200 is $300/month, so the question is whether you would otherwise buy more than $300 of credits, or whether waiting on Astra costs you more than $300 of time.

Yes: you pair-program in Codex on Astra for hours a day and the 8x faster generation changes how you work; or you routinely exhaust Pro 200 and buy credits.

Pro vs the API

For programmatic use, Pro is the wrong product. A 30K-input / 5K-output call costs $0.11 on GPT-6.1 Sol and $0.55 on GPT-6 Astra at API list price; $100 of API spend buys roughly 900 Sol calls or 180 Astra calls, with no allowance resets and Batch at 50% off. Pro’s value is the bundle — Codex cloud tasks, deep research, dots, Sign in with ChatGPT paying for partner apps — not raw tokens.
