What Is The X Subscription? Grok + Cursor Bundle Explained

Published:

The short answer

The X Subscription is xAI’s single plan for Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium, launched on October 12, 2026. One subscription, one shared pool of Grok model usage across the Grok apps and the Cursor editor, five tiers:

TierPriceIncluded usageWhat you get
Free$0LimitedDaily Grok access, a starter allowance for Cursor’s coding agents, standard X
Plus$8/monthBaseMore Grok and Cursor usage (Grok models only), checkmark, creator tools, fewer ads
Premium$30/month4x PlusBenefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ (previously $90 combined); third-party models in Cursor
Super$100/month15x PlusAll of the above
Ultra$200/month50x PlusAll of the above

It follows SpaceX’s $60 billion Cursor deal, which put Cursor under the same roof as Grok.

What changes for Cursor users

One weekly pool for Grok models. Paid plans include Grok model usage shared across the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X and Cursor. Cursor’s announcement says the allowance refreshes weekly, so one heavy day does not use up the month.

More Grok coding per dollar. xAI says every X Subscription plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with Grok models as the comparable Cursor plan.

Third-party models cost extra. On Premium and above you can still use Claude, GPT and other models in Cursor, but that usage is billed separately at API list prices through top-ups. At list price, Claude Opus 5.5 is $4/$20 and Grok 4.7 $2/$6 per million tokens — see our current API prices. The $8 Plus plan is Grok-only.

Teams pay individual prices. Premium, Super and Ultra seats cost the same for teams, which xAI says is lower per seat than the old Cursor Teams plan with 3x more coding usage, plus SSO, admin controls, consolidated billing, usage analytics and SOC 2.

Should you switch?

Switch if Grok is your main model. If you already pay for SuperGrok or X Premium+ and Cursor, Premium at $30 replaces up to $90 a month of separate plans.

Stay put if you mostly use Claude or GPT in Cursor. Your old Cursor plan keeps its current price and features; on the new plans, third-party model usage is pay-as-you-go at list price on top of the subscription. Compare a month of your real usage before moving.

Try the switch offer if undecided. Existing subscribers see the option in billing settings as it rolls out, with a prorated refund for the old plan and limited-time offers.
